Went fishing today and caught sea weed it was a monster at least 200lb  .I saw 4 other anglers and only one had had a fish which was a small school bass(caught it in front of me).I am going to try again tommorow after i have searched the shore for peeler crabs(i found loads of dead ones washed up on the beach with loads of dead mussels)as this must be what the fish are after
wish me luck and tight lines everyone

no i don't think it is pollution these were half eaten ,claws, legs bits of body etc the area i fish is always hard work during the day but at night it really comes on song.
The local bait diggers have been collecting loads of peelers recentley and i found a load when i took my son over the beach to play(but didn't have a pot with me).
I would like to fish it at night but work stops play, but if you don't go fishing you will never catch a fish big grin
tight lines everyone

 Your right there.Try making your snoods longer that might make the fish bite as they could be feeling resistance too soon before the hook sets. tougue
Another thing I find works with the mussels let them go off a bit and you will find they stink a treat and bring the fish in to you. Then your fresh bait does the Bizz 8)
 Then also if no joy after a least 15mins change the bait. Some fish can be fussy  when theres loads of selection on offer thats when the freshest gets the job done.
Good Luck happy

Another thing I find works with the mussels let them go off a bit and you will find they stink a treat and bring the fish in to you. does this count for all baits like squid, peeler crab, etc, etc. because i thougth that gon off baits stink more, and give off more cent trail in the water than fresh baits, expecially wen squid goes off ( it really does stink nd release more smell). does any 1 else have any views on weather gon off baits work better than fresh baits???.

I can only say that the mussels work because when I am finished for the day I can refreeze them and there good for the next time and the next.
I have found that the other baits have only worked for conger (ie it brings them in) but its the fresh that the conger takes and the other fish stay away completely.
The mussels work as fish have taken the ones that have been stinky I dont know why but it woks for me and my mates have had success also who knows. :?

Maybe its just my area that this works in any one else tried it in their area :?:

I have never tried mussels as bait,i should do as at low tide you can see the mussel beds exposed. I went out today and found about 20 shore crabs(and a rig i lost yesterday)and only 6 of these were peelers.
Man that was hard work for a few casts worth of bait 8O
Didn't manage to fish today but might go tommorow after i have searched for a few more crabs
Tight lines

big grin Good luck Mate let me know if you have any success with the mussels. big grin

  I would also try a cocktail of mussel and crab that would work a treat in your area.Especially if you fish with two snoods one with the smellies and the longer with the good stuff if you know what I mean.

 Also try a rattle if fishing at night the fish love that smell and vibration. I can speak with all honesty about that its a killler.

8) I love using that method at night it wipes my mates off the board. 8)

Good luck and above all enjoy yorself. tougue

I also have some frozen black lug, mackrell, herring(for the skate being caught).whole squid, mini squid and a few more frozen peelers in the freezer. A good bait to try is a squid body stuffed with different baits, i like squid stuffed with lug, tie the end off with baiting cotton and put on a pennel rig. Then stab some holes in it with the baiting needle(acts like a swim feeder and leaves a good bait trail)and cast away. tougue
I have had a few bass with this bait but it is a large bait so most small fish are out the question.I usually use two rods, one with a large bait and the other catching small fish whilst waiting for some thing to take the large bait(got to be greedy now  , always want them big fish  )

Theres some good baits there. I like the squid idea might give it a go myself.

I particularly like using catfood Yes thats right  CATFOOD  . I use it in my feeders when fishing for conger it basically is the only thing I use in my feeders now since it produces results everytime.
I think it must be like spoding is to carp fishing. You feed the same area a couple of times and then chuck out the business end and in no time 8O BANG 8O your in.

Since I have discovered it works so well my mates have been going with me becuase they dont believe me. But when they see the fish it brings in thats them convinced. The only problem is they dont fish for conger and they say that the feeder improves their fishing also but its muggins thats doing all the work.

Anyway off this weekend to try a new mark.So all the gear goes with us until we suss it out heres hoping the weather doesnt let us down.

Good Luck to everyone else thats out this weekend. TIGHTLINES

Didn't manage to fish today sad but found another 16 peeler crabs. should be fishing next week with a few mates so buy then i should have about 50 crabs(plenty for a fishing session). I brought some new spinners today and might try them out soon(i caught some school bass the other day so they are out there)Last year i caught bass up to about 4lb on lure(and on a light spinning rod they put up a good fight).I find my rappala lures(saltwater x-rap)are excellent but at £10 each i get a little paranoid about loseing them. The other lure to try that is very good and cheap is a leaded swimming shad and this can be fished deep so you can try different zones in the water. I also have a storm chug bug which is a surface lure and i really want to catch a fish on it but so far they have eluded me. I can picture the bass hitting the lure 8O ,as the surface explodes :o , the lure dissapears happy and the line goes tight big grin and the fight is on  .That really is the best feeling in the world 8)
Tight lines everyone
