Being a bit of a traditionalist, I have never used braid for beach fishing but was recently persuaded by a tackle shop to invest in a spool of 25 lb. (I thought I can use it on the boat if it doesn't work out on the beach). Sean turned up and offered the usual comments: " looks like string", "doesn't look very strong", "Abrasion will soon bust it on a beach". I have yet to use to put it to the test but, can anyone comment on the suggestions made by the tackle shop: 1. It will cast further. 2. It will stand up to abrasion quite well. 3. It will not float around in the wind as monofilament does.
Thanks in anticipation folks

first u hope you will be using a fixed spool reel to cast your braid if not then forget it! as for casting further your hardly going to be able to tell the difference but need to use a finger guard when casting or will easily slice ur finger's. if u get a knot in braid the chances of undoing it are very slim say if u get spool over spill. And different braids stand up to abbrasion differently depending on the weave and coating if there is one. As for the other advantages n disadvantages over mono try it ur self and see as each to there own. Not knowing exactually what kind of fishing you would intend to use it for cant really comment further.

A couple of years ago, during my Matt Hayes phase, I too experimented with braid. Not for sea angling, but for pike. A short experiment as I lost several nice fish (one at the net that looked 25lb ish) when the tried and trusted knots I'd used with mono failed at the slightest pressure. Not through breakages, they just slipped through and didn't grip. I tried several different knots all to the same effect. I'm sure there were knots that work well with braid else no-one would be using it, but at the time it was easier to switch back to mono and call it a bad job. just something to be aware of.
