Hi, just joined site as I have just bought myself a new rod and basic tackle to start Fishing again after a 20 year break. I used to fly fish and spin for trout in rivers and lochs in and around Aberdeen.
I live 14 Miles south in Stonehaven, within 20 metres of the sea, from my back door and 2 minutes walk to Harbour.
I know nothing about sea fishing other than fishing for makerel in Orkney many years ago.
Can anyone tell me what I could expect to catch of the N.E. Coast of Scotland. I have the option of fishing off the harbour breakwater or the main bay. The beach by my house is also the mouth of the river Carron and about half a mile North is the mouth of The River Cowie. Both are quite small rivers but in previous years have seen salmon or sea trout jumping just at the mouth of the rivers. At present the rivers are in spate and discharging much brown water into the sea. I remeber spates were often good for catching salmon on rivers. Does this hold rue for surf fishing at the mouthes of rivers. Have also seen up to 7 Heron Fishing in the area at once so there must be something to catch. :?:
When I was about 14 I went on a small boat from Stonehaven and fished just south below the cliffs of Dunnotar, so there may alsobe option to go on boat also. Well OK I did not do much fishing after getting a whiff of the fumes from the engine and spent the longest 4-5 hours of my life feeding my lunch to the fishes.
Any information/Advice on times of year, the effects of High Tide/Low tide on chances of catching fish, bait and technique eg. spinning with lures or weights and baited hooks, feathers etc would be much appreciated to get me going.
I appreciated there are many requests above but any help would be appreciated.
I look forward to hearing from you all out there.

Hi stoneyboy
You have got some of the best fishing at yer door step mate,Fish near the mouth of any of the small rivers and you should get Flounder to worm or peeler baits, any of the rock marks around will produce cod and later on pollack ,wrasse and coalies.try googling Aberdeen Sea angling, there is aweb site silver city something that has some good info on that area.
