i have been sent an email saying a virus is on its way
Dont open an attatchment entitled. 'POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK'
apparently it burns the whole hard disk C of your computer
it was discovered by mcaff but there is no plug yet.
allegedly it is as virilent as the plague.
Snope has confirmed it they say
you need to turn your comp off then reboot it apparently
i may have my tail being pulled, but thought you should all know.
Hi
all:
I checked
with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing
up for this
virus!
I checked Snopes (URL
above:), and it is for real!!
Get this
E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.
PLEASE
FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND
CONTACTS!
You
should be alert during the next few days. Do
not open any message with
an attachment
entitled 'POSTCARD
FROM HALLMARK,' regardless
of who sent it
to you. It is a virus which
opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole
hard disc C of your computer. This virus
will be received from someone who
has
your
e-mail address in his/her contact list. This
is the reason why you need
to send this
e-mail to all your contacts It is better to
receive this
message
25 times than to
receive the virus and open it.
If you
receive a mail called' POSTCARD,'
even though sent to you by a
friend, do
not open it! Shut down your computer
immediately.
This is the worst
virus announced by CNN. It has been classified
by
Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever.
This virus was discovered by
McAfee
yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this
kind of virus. This virus
simply
destroys
the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the
vital information is
kept.
COPY THIS
E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER:
IF YOU SEND IT TO
THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT
ALL OF US

The aim of these hoaxes is to slow down e-mail servers by the paranoid forwarding them on to anyone and everyone. A simple google search will authenticate any virus threat. As an aside you may wish to edit your post to remove all those peoples e-mail addresses before a webcrawling bot picks them up for some spamming purpose.
There are a few things that bother me about this so called Virus, firstly, the people that concoct these viruses dont give advance warning they are sending them, so to say its on its way is to say the least, unbelievable. secondly, shutting down your PC if and when you receive it makes no difference whatsoever, its only opening the Email that does any damage, and if this exists once you open it, shutting down makes no sense, because your hard drives gone, meaning you cant shut down. There is one simple rule to Emails, if you dont know the sender, DELETE it, and never be curious, follow this advice and you will never go wrong, because, if your mate opened it, he cant email you to pass it on, hes got no hard drive.

sORRY ALL, i was only trying to provide a service.
thanks mjb for your advice, and thanks MM for your comments.
I thought initially that i was being mugged off but it stayed in my head and in the end i felt i needed to alert all to a possible risk.
You have no idea how long it took me to transfer the post from email to forum after being in the pub all day and being a divv.
yours, drunk and orderly, incompetent on the PC, and awaiting the end of the world,
steve.
No problemo Steve, to be honest, you have more chance of picking up a virus by surfing web pages, I see loads of these warnings sent out, and usually someones avin a larf. usually the first people to get a virus of this kind cant tell you about it, cos there out buying a new hard drive...
