big baits

is it worth using big baits?

like a whole squid or something big off shore?

and how longf would u leave it out

i tend to keep baits small

but never seem to catch anything big

soo any helpp be appreciated

Yes, it;s definitely worth using big baits, a better scent trail will entice more fish to you. It wont mean you will catch more often, but what you do catch will be a lot bigger on average. And we all want big fish.

I always bait one of my 2 rods with large baits. Below are the list i use

1. Whole squid small ones or normal's depends if area is good for Rays.
2. 3 Ragworms tipped with squid or mackeral.
3. Lugworm tipped also with squid or mackeral.

I usually only use a bait rig when using large baits. I tend to leave bait out longer especially whole squid to allow scent trail to expand to max distance. I have had lots of success with this technique and usually fish that i catch are of bigger sizes but less frequent.

My favourite big bait is mackeral head and frame or the same with one side left on ,it has the edge over the softer baits as it`s fairly crab and whiting (or bream) resistant. Fished in close the bits other anglers normally discard have caught some good bass.Don`t forget the bass will also mop up any pout or whiting anglers have put back .

I always fish a big bait. With regards to how long it should stay out depends on the sea state on personal preference.

Ive left a flapper out for well over an hour before and ended up with an 8lb bass...this was on a still night!

When i have fished Browndown, Stokes and Hill head i use whole squid and rag tipped with either squid or mackeral. I have ahd good success with both but my best was a good size Ray about 7lb from near Hill head on beach just before Titchfield Haven.

If u come to Portsmouth side then big rag baits are good but also squid works when Bass r hungry.
