I was wondering how everyones plaice fishing efforts were being rewarded?
Here in the Solent they are starting to make an appearence but its sods law that the weathers been so un-settled that very little boat trips have been possible.
A recent annual beach comp took place last weekend & 9 decent plaice came up, which on one hand sounds bad seeing as though that was between approximately 100 anglers but on the other the last two years had seen none at all from the same comp fished over the same weekend. The 9 that did come were all good fish over 3lb.
So all in all I think that the result of this beach comp should be encouraging to boat anglers for when the weather does eventually break.
If like me you spent this weekend arranging your gear rather than on beach or boat I expect your none the wiser!
Cheers
Pete

Me and Sean are going after them on Hayling Beach (Coastguard Station) this week if we get a break in the weather. Havant tackle shop bloke reckons they should be there by now. There are some wacking great tides this week so that seems promising too. I read about a boat which went out and got about 50 near here so they are definitely on there way in. If we go and IF we catch, will report on the Hayling thread.

Hello Eccles, I've fished Hayling bay a few times, more than ten years back you could come away with good bags of ten fish or more. Sea Angler magazine have done a few articles in the past rating it highly as a plaice mark.
I remember winning a plaice comp when I was junior at Southsea Sea Angling club (back 16 or 17 years) with 15 & the senior who was fishing with me had 22.
Last year me + 2 mates fished the entire length of Eastney beach from St Georges rd to the radar station over consequtive weekends through mid March to mid April without a single plaice.
Still a few have come up on beach & boat lately so I think its possible this year.
Cheers
Pete
