Hi guys and gals, I've got a problem with my Okuma Eclipz F/S and hope you can help.
Basically, I'm getting friction burns on my line from the bail arm.
Picture the position of the line on the reel before you flip the arm over to cast, the line rests under the 'roller'.
Just below the screw that holds the B/A (not on the hinged bit but the part that the arm goes into) the line is wrapping itself around it on the retreive and has caused serious friction burn, my line has actually cut into it.
This has caused my line to snap off whilst reeling in and all the shop said is that 'there isn't a fault with the reel, it's how you retreive and they don't do spares for it'
Any ideas how to fix this problem - ie fill in the groove that this has made and stop it happening again??
I'm thinking of writing to them but it's in Ontario Canada!!

I don't know what shop you went to but I wouldn't go there again - Okuma spares are generally available in the Uk no problem, though if it is an older or foreign model you may struggle for parts as you do with most companies - try contacting them via their UK appointed spares distributor at the link below.
The initial problem which caused the damage is partly down to you though (although it is a design fault really) and is one I've seen commonly with Okumas, including one I use for spinning myself.
The line wraps round the either the line roller assembly or its mounting on the roller head, not when you retreive, but when you engage the bail arm after the cast and is caused by slack line as the bail goes over.
Theres a simple workaround which has been around for years. That is to lift the rod to vertical smoothly as you rotate the handle and engage the bail arm after the cast - this stops loose loops of line catching and keeps the line taught immediately the bail arm engages.
Another point that I've notice when spinning with mine (which puts twist in the line) is that if you have a lot of twist in your line the resulting springy nature it exibits makes the problem much worse - if you don't keep your actual line roller well oiled on a FS Reel you will end up with line twist and exacerbate the problem. it may be that you keep yours well oiled but if you don't, it won't be helping you.
