Am I the only one thinking this . Nice catch and all that but should we really be keeping 2lb Cod in this day and age. Surely it would be worth putting them back til they get a bit bigger. |

i think its worth keeping 2lbs now and then, after blanking the last 6 weekends and spending loads of money on bait yeah i think its well worth keeping them, its not like they are under size if they was they would have gone back, and the way its been fishing lately any one would have been more than pleased with having a few 2lb cod, hows your fishing been going lately. |

It's all a matter of opinion I guess. I personally have vowed to put any fish under 4lbs (my shore pb) back if not fishing a comp. You should see the faces of some people when I throw back a 2 or 3 lber for example. "I would have had that". I sometimes catch large bags of whiting at comps (of which I don't eat) and having to keep them just to weigh in and then have to find someone who will eat them. I would much rather put them all back if there was another way to check them in. A friend and I must have caught about 20lb of plaice, whiting and codling in a 3 hour session and put every fish back. Watching them swim away gives me a much better feeling than eating them. One thing that made me sick was Roker Pier end full of dead whities and also a bag of whities hung to a post at the end of the pier. Fair enough these fish aren't the best specimen to catch but provide goo food for the bigger fish. If only everyone would only keep enough for their own consumption (which I'm sure you have bud) and let everything else go, I'm sure our fishing would be a lot better. |

Well bud_guy_ser, I would have kept them too - it looked like a good night to me - nice one mate.
My view is that if they are oversize and will be eaten then they can be kept. I myself wouldn't enter a comp. that demanded fish of all sizes to be kept for weighing then discarded... |
