I have a Century Tip Tornado Match & lite & am more than pleased with both of them. I was considering also buying a decent twelve / thirteen foot beachcaster ran for a fixed spool. I mentioned I was after one to the same tackle shop owner that I bought the two century rods from & he recommended that with a decent fixed spool with a tapered spool & a reel seat on the rod at the preferred position I could use a FS successfully on one of the century rods, the TT Lite is the type of rod I would be looking for but ran for a FS.
I wondered if other anglers would recommend this or if not what quality FS rods & reels they would recommend.
Cheers

the difference between fixed spool rods and multiplier rods is size and amount of rings.

the fixed spool rods have fewer but larger rings to break down the line twist. and multiplier rods have more smaller rings to keep the line of the rod when reeling in.

if you ask me it depends on how often you're gonna use the fixed spool reel. if only a few times a year then the rod you've got will do , but if you wanna use the fixed spool alot then you may aswell get a rod rung for fixed spool. or you could get the lite re- built for the fixed spool, but then you can't really use it for a multiplier.

descisions, descisions.

Thanks for your reply, I realise the thinking behind the ring size & spacing but what I am told is that a reel with enough of a coned spool & efficient anti-twist line lay will allow its use on a multiplier run rod. I know that now alot of the manufacturers are making rods with adjusting reel seats & guides a bit bigger in diameter than those for a multiplier but smaller than those of fixed spool use to give the rod a multi - use. I suppose I am asking are the modern day beach casting type fixed spools good enough to be used with multiplier sized & spaced guides successfully?

If you want to use the rod with out it being re rung, get a big bottom eye off a fixed spool rod and just tape it into place this, This will allow the line to flow though the original rings by breaking down the amount of line twist as it comes of the spool.
