Hi all. Im new to this site which seems a great way to discuss tackle, tactics and venues on all our our first loves! ( Dont let the misses know!)
Will be going over to fish with a few pals at Aldeburgh weekend of 25th 03/06 and wondered if anyone knows of any fish coming off at this time of year and is it worth it?? :?:
Are their any cod still knocking about?
Also where are good places to fish along this coast or is it all muich of a muchness??
Im hearing about the tower a fair bit will this be worth a chuck or two??
Would be grateful for your replies and looking forward to having a natta with you all!! Cheers |

Hi Dave, def. worth a chuck. Going this weekend to somewhere like Dunwich or Shingle Street. I have not seen any great reports from Aldeburgh. The fishing from what I have seen has been better North of Aldeburgh. Places like Dunwich, Covehithe, Kessingland, Lowestoft etc. Trouble is as the cod have been coming out on an almost daily basis, these places sound busy even mid-week. They were still catching codling up till recently which I presume were still winter fish; but this will hopefully improve with the expected Spring run, which may or may not have already started. If this is the case there is the possibility of good fishing from now till about May. We sometimes catch more codling April/May time than through the whole of the Winter. The other bonus is that the crabs usually start peeling in the next month or so and there will also be the chance of bass, eels etc, if you're lucky. Hope this helps a bit and good luck wherever you go..........................If it were me I would plump for Dunwich, but hey what do I know. ......PS. If you want any more specific tips on where/how to fish there, just pm me..........................Cheers. |

Hi Ash!
Thanks very much for the info matey! Really appreciated
Did you get out this weekend?? Any fish???
So looking forward to getting out as havent been out for months what with a new house and all! :?
Should hopefully be 4 of us out but will be checking out the places you have suggested ( Thanks again!)
Is really difficult to know places with out the help of people like ya self. I have'nt fished the east coast for years. Only had a few chucks as a nipper at Hopton on holiday with the pearents years ago and needless to say did'nt catch anything!!
Anyway now a few years older and wiser and being able to chuck a bait 100 yards further is worth a go!!
Will let you know how we get on and where we fish but hopefully will have a few between us.
Tight lines for the future and speak soon! |

Hi all,
had a very windy daytime session at Dunwich on Saturday, north-easterly blowing that strong at times it was all I could do to get out 75 yds!
Anyway fished about 500 yds north of the huts, had 3 undersize codlets for my trouble, but just couldn't get out far enough or stay put long enough for anything more worthwhile to show an interest. Oh well, beats staying in I guess....
Back for more in a week or so! |

No worries Dave. Hope it was of some help. Mate and me fished Shingle Street Sunday. Arrived at 08.45 after hour and a half drive, to find fifteen or twenty anglers already there. That seemed unusual. Turned out they were fishing some charity match. All I saw caught all day was a few codling about six inches long. There was no current to speak of but it had had a good blow through the week. It was even blowing 10 mph NE while we were there. It certainly wasn't calm. I had one good bite all day which looked like a cod bite but the leads were not digging in for whatever reason and when I picked the rod up the fish had been and gone. I was gutted. . Do not know why it was so grim. Wished I'd have fished Dunwich or even Holland On Sea. Sure we'd have done better. Anyway good luck wherever you end up going Dave and let us know how you get on. Cheers. |

Hi Dave, just to add. The fishing has gone downhill the last week or so. Catches have been down all round. Just thought I would add that in case you hold me responsible. Catches seemed to be better prior to the full moon and not since it has started waning?? I have stopped howling since the full moon. Feeling a lot better now; sore throat has gone. |
