For all those wishing to attend the thames estuary forums first meet, please find below the proposed arrangements.

Venue. Black jetty, canvey island. (location details further down).

Date saturday 22nd of november 2008.

Meet at the lobster smack pub around 4.30pm for a swift pint with the intention to move off for fishing at 5.30pm. high tide is 8.30pm and the venue is suitable for fishing after high water.

i hope that choosing the old black jetty on canvey suits most people, however i know it will not be to everyones liking. for this i apologise in advance. if this meet goes well and there is decent support i am sure we will be organising other meets at other venues.
so far the response from initial feed back indicates in excess of a dozen people wishing to attend. with around twenty expressing an interest.

lets hope the weather is on our side!!

there is ample parking at and around the lobster smack car park but please be thoughtfull off neighbours etc. the lobster smack is situated at the end of haven road, canvey island, essex. ss8 0nr. the jetty itself is to the right hand side of the public house aproximately ten minutes walk along the top of the sea wall to the base of the staircase. extreme caution should be excersiced when using the stairs as they are in dis-repair. it would be prudent at the juncture to state that neither i or sea-fishing.org are in any way responsible or liable for anyone who should be injured whilst attending this meet. YOU DO SO ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK. once up the stairs continue down the jetty untill you find a suitable place. we will probably start around the dog leg (ten mins from stairs) and possibly move back up to the "lay-bys" later in the tide. however no one is under any obligation to conform to anything lol!!! bring some loose change just in case we have a sweep on the biggest fish (or only fish).

Torches are essential for navigation of the stairway!!

please leave a post if you plan to come so we can get a decent gauge of numbers, also indicate if you are planning to bring guests etc. as always any questions or feed back let me know. cheers all and see ya soon!!! Colin.

not wanting to hi-jack your thread but think people need to be absolutely clear before they come from miles around just how difficult it is to climb these stairs considering the amount of pensioners/less abled people may want to come along

dobber. not sure if you have been following threads (tag along and thames forum meet) but when talking in the earlier throws of this meet it was discussed as you rightly say, it is an awkward climb (ish) once over the initial first section it is easy. once agian this is NOT for the faint hearted or immobile. BUT on a more positive note it will be the first of hopefully many meets! r u coming dobber?

bait wise................. rag, lug, crab, squid, fish baits (ie mackie, herring bluey etc). if bass are about poss lures? might even be worth trying some of the ones like slipper limpets and mussels.

i would normaly take 3 packets of worms, half a pack of squid and a few crab or fish based bait.

in terms of species.........there are a variety of flat fish taken from the jetty. also the usual culprits like bass whiting codling etc if they are in. eels also crop up now and then. quite a large possible variety!!!!!!
