Most people are nice fishing here. Most people. However one of my old old friends were fishing the estuary whilst we were fishing the ocean (about 250m away from each other facing different directions). I need to say what follows is completly unprovoked.

When my mate who was fishing with me went to the bait shop with his brother he was faced with the crowd fishing the estuary hurling abuse and being threatened to be beaten up.

When they returned they alerted me of the situation. Not only had that crowd been abusing but they had chased them up the road.

About 5 mins later, my 'friend' came down to see what we had caught. Knowing we had caught a bass, mullet, dabs and a few other he decided to stay and pick at things we were doing wrong. Like not wrapping our ragworm up to keep it moist etc. I kindly asked him to go away in return he got aggressive and said i wont move for anyone. I managed to persuade him to leave before he caused any harm to my younger friends fishing with me. Only to realise he had gone back to tell the others to move next to us.

Now, there was 4 of us fishing with 8 rods between us fishing in a space no larger than 4 meters. 5 of them moved down within 3 meters of us. (We were in the corner if anyone knows newhaven) and set up 6 rods. We were forced to pack up 5 of our rods due to them tangling. We were the only two crowds fishing that day and they could have had the whole section of the car park where you fish but no, they wanted where we were.

After a long session of threats, insults and them kicking our kit I asked them nicely to stop being childish. Then the 'responsible adult' came out the car adding power to their session by encouraging them. "They are kids, their meant to be childish" he said. These kids were 8-9 and swearing like there was no tomoro at us.

Once they knew he was on their side they tried stealing some of our kit. I noticed it and packed that lot up. Their response was to grab an industrial bold and wave it around saying "whose first, I think him, I hate him". At which point 2 of my friends broke down scared.

Enough was enough We packed up and left.

So if anyone fishes Newhaven, be careful who you talk to. there are two groups of kids who fish there. My lot and his lot. I can be easily identified as I wear black trousers and a blue shirt. They treat no1 with respect. Ive even seen them steal bait off another fiherman whilst his back was turned. If you see them at all, dont fish near them.

As for us, my friends are too scared to go fishing for a while. As its our word against theirs, police can do nothing but carry a record. Its such a shame to have to alert others about this, but you deserve to know. They arent fishermen, they are disrespectful kids... I know im only 16 but atleast I respect people.

I hope this hasnt happened anywhere else.
