hi, i'm after some advice for lure fishing, hoping to catch a bass, i've got a 35g lure should this be loaded on a rig if so what kind? also ive read that it should ideally be near the surface so will i need to add a float of some kind to keep it near the surface, any advice on lure fishing in general would be appreciated as ive only used live bait before. i.e. whats the difference between plugging and spinning suprise

Hey mate, don't take this for gospel as I'm still new to this as well but it's nice to have a reply to questions so here goes.....

The advice I've been given is to mount the lure onto a simple rig - that is get a length of trace line (not too long, probably about 2-3 foot) attach the lure at one end and fix a 2oz weight about half way between the ends but where is up to you (you don't want it too heavy, so that it doesn't go straight to the bottom) Attach this rig to your main line and your ready to go.

Cast out and bring it back in not too fast but - either, keep it moving while reeling in and 'jerking' the rod so the lure jerks in the water, or bring it in a bit leave it a second then bring it in abit more, leave for a second etc etc.

Over rocks etc, it may be better to use the first method.

Alternatively, GOOGLE 'lure fishing' or 'bass lure rigs' and click on the IMAGE option on the top

Hope this helps, cheers Phil

Just re-read the first post, I think with the weighted lures like you have, there may not be a need for an extra weight, just attach to trace line/main line and cast out and bring back in....

Again, google or try www.gofishing.com[/url]

Lures can be used on the surface and mid water or jigged up and down from a boat. Lures can be any thing from a rubber eel, feathers, spoond muppets, spinners and imitation fish

Dont always go with the flow, What works for some may not work for youi. Dont be afraid to experiment as every venue fishes diferently.

Earthworms are rejected as a sea bait but flounders love em.

Hope this helps rather than confuse you. keith

Get yourself a couple of dexter wedges mate, bass love them. They come in various sizes but 28g is a good size to use. Best thing about them is they are a weighted lure and therefore cast great, 50 or 60 yards is possible on a light spinning rod with 10lb line.

No rig is necessary, simply tie the line directly to the swivel on the lure and you're good to go. Some people like to work the lure by moving the rod as they retrieve. Personally I don't with dexter wedges as the wedge shape of the lure does the work for you in my opinion. Experiment with speed of retrieve and see what works for you.
