Hi mate,
It is quite normal for us all to go through stages of blanking especially at this time of year, and to be honest this winter hasn't really produced any number of fish all over the country.
Have a chat to your local tackle dealer to see if anyone else is catching and if they are what are they doing different to you?
As for the bass matey, winter is normally no where near as good bass fishing as the summer so just be patient till the summer months arrive.

What you need is a closed season. I had the same disillusionment as yourself a few years ago. I gave up conventional fishing and exclusively flyfish in the salt now. This means from Christmas to Easter my target species have buggered off to warmer climes or gone shagging, so I have an enforced break. A few evenings by the fire tying flies, reading books and maintaining gear and by March the anticipation is building of the season to come and I'm bursting with enthusiasm.

i felt this way about coarse fishing, i was (not being big headed!) catching everytime i went, i was out fishing everyone on the different lakes i knew how and where the fish fed and where they would be and i got bored! not the same thing but along the same lines anyway, and thats why i gave up coarse fishing and took up sea fishing. but now its whiting whiting or undersized this or that. pain in the arse! plus the aggro of pumping and catching not alot really! |

i think everyone goes through a blanking stage, and yes it is an awfal time of year. i would say pick your tides, venue, time , etc very carefully so you at least catch something.
spring will be here soon and bloody hell i'm looking forward to it. |

I dont know if you are into Boat Fishing, Phildalt, but you are quite local to where I take my boat out from, usally Rye and occasionally Newhaven. I very rarely have a bad day so if you want you are more than welcome to come out with me sometime. I have enough boat gear for you to use if you dont have any. I should be able to get you a decent bass or 2 to give you the encouragement to carry on!
Even though I have 20k worth of boat to fish from and can go almost anytime I want I still occasionally cant be bothered but once I get out there I dont want to come back in! |

Take the offer from cascars mate!!!!
I sometimes need a bit of encouragment for my fishing and the offer from this guy will give you all the encouragement you need and it will make a nice change for you.
I wish i were a local too! I would snatch the offer!
Fair play to you cascars for the kind offer to an angler in distress! |

Have to agree - take up that offer! And well done cascars - terrific gesture there!
Know what you mean about lack of will though - I get it from time to time, but then a little think usually tells me that I lack the will for other things at the same time too, so I don't worry too much as it always goes away.
Failing that, I either fish a pier with other people around or watch Discovery H&L fishing progs and get myself in the mood...

The fishing has been so poor rescently that I am giving it a miss this weekend.... :?
Or is that it is my birthday tomorrow (Sunday) 8O .... and that the tides and weather look better about mid week... cann't remember now :!:
Oh well I am sure it will come to me once I have plenty of time to think  whilst watching and waiting for a bite on my baited hook somewhere on the south coast about mid week... lol

cant offer you a boat trip m8 but you are welcome to stand on the beach with us anytime instead of blanking on your own. we are going most weekends between Sandgate and Dungeness.my sons at the stage where he's got enough enthusiasm for the whole of the south coast as he has just taken the sport up and is desparate to catch as much as he can before we move to the Med later this year...was trying to hang back for one last Cod season but looks like we will be gone before they return
Keep ur chin up m8...springs nearly here |
