Well fished from 18:00 till 01:30 and had lots of action.

In the daylight hours had lots of mackys on my spinning rod and I had 2 rods out as far as i could cast and had 2 red gurnards, then it got dark, so I put one rod out as far as I could cast and the other rod real close in for the Bass, for the first hour of the darkness had 2 pout then after that all it was just loads and loads of doggies to keep me very busy all night, then my rod that was close in started going MAD!! I stuck in too it and it was still going mad and then it went dead,,,,,,Gutted, I will never know what I had on my line crying crying oh well..
Then after about an hour, the rod that was far out started going, I started to pull in what ever it was and then that went dead, I pulled it in and the fish had bitten off my hook, confused .
So that was it, I packed up and went home.

Im going to try Chesil cove next time, so if there is anyone out there that can help on whats best for that mark that would be much appreciated..

chesil cove -
i like this place, its much the same, more or less, as the rest of the portland end of chesil and can be good on the right day/night.
if you go in daylight expect to see divers scuba/snorkeling in the bay.
the 2 main points that make it differ from the rest of the bank are .
this is where all the flotsam from lyme bay gets washed to after a set of strong s/w winds , last sat there was a lot of weed n debris washed onto the beach & large floating rafts of wed/rubbish hanging around the cove at high water.
this all drifts off towards ferry bridge on the ebb but returns on the flood as its trapped against portland by the wind&tides.

also its a bit shallower than the rest of the bank to the west of the masonic carpark and sort of left the boat launch area feels like there's a kelp bed approx 50yds out , this is tackle hungry, either cast short or use rotten bottoms and softish wire hooks that will straighten pull out if hooked into the kelp.
20lb+ mainline will help you pull out of the kelp b4 your line parts .

there's a good chance that your hooks will be masked by snagging kelp b4 a fish finds the bait.
best advise is to take steps to avoid this or just be contented with short casts.

i've had alot of fun spinning for gars/mackerel & pollock here.
