Hi, off to chesil myself on thursday, Abbotsbury to be precise. It's a nice and easy place to fish, carpark, cafe and toilets. But more importantly, the fishing.....

It can be deadly slow during daylight hours, unless you fancy Mackie bashing, (there will be hundreds of them there). As light levels drop, the bass switch on, then the pout, dog fish and smooth hounds. Rag will get you fish, but the bass seem to prefer lug tipped off with squid.

No need to cast far, bass come literally in the breakers, where as 40+ yrds will be enough for everything else.

Hope this helps. Matt

Hi seaboy, Weymouth Angling Centre is where I pick mine up from on my way down, (like you from Londonish). I usually give them a ring to pre-order rag, fresh lug and peelers. Their number is 01305777771. They're very helpful and will give you some hints and let you know how's it's fishing. Usually stopping at weymouth is a very welcome toilet and fish n chip stop.
If you're down on thursday/Friday I'll maybe see you.

Hi Guys, Good luck fishing this week, its been a couple of years since i fished there. I remember once reading about the wreaks just lying off the beach can discharge some of their cargo during a storm including explosives so be careful as there is a storm due tonight...Tight Lines and Bendy Rods...Frank

Fishing was dire!!!! Day light was a total waste of time, not a touch, but hooks being stripped or snipped by Spiders. Then as night fell, it was a total pout fest. Baits being stripped by 3 inch pouts as soon as they touched bottom. This continued all night. Didn't matter what bait went out, a pout soon found it and decimated it. Hoped for some smuts, but the crab was stripped instantly. Whole squid and live pout didn't bring a sniff from and bass in the breakers. Probably didn't help with the Easterly that blew all night. Still, bloody lovely to be out and fishing and a Dorset breakfast pastie hit the mark in the morning.

Oh, and the mackie bashers were a real problem, we walked a fair distance towards the dragons teeth, but there was so many of them, that at one time someone actually stood under my lines to cast. Politely asked him to move..... They are just holiday makers so know no difference, and have a right to have fun too, just not that close.

Finally, was appauled by the state of the beach again. Filled 2 bin liners from my area. TAKE OUR RUBBISH HOME!!!
