I had an awful day on Saturday , a full day and most of the night session and only 7 fish caught to show for it (from 3 different venues) . Plus my casting went completly off . I normally cast Brighton style and get out 80 to 100yds without much effort and with reasonable accuracy . On Saturday my lead was flying off everywhere , I was either releasing to early and the lead was flying out to my right or worse to late and my rod crashing down on to the top of the wall . I know I was over compensating for whatever I had done on the previous cast . Good job there were so few people about and I had no one elses line to foul but my own .
The really strange thing was it was only with my beachcaster that my casting was so poor , with my bass rod the lead was going where I wanted it , length and distance . Now Im wondering is the constant swapping between two different types of rod causing my bad casting or was I just having one of those days ?

Andy

Just having a bad day I reckon - it happens to everyone at some time or another. I have no two rods the same ... two different Tip Tornados, an ageing Metalite and a powertex Bass ... all cast differently and occasionally you just seem to be "off" with one of em.

Personally I'm a pendulum caster and if I'm having one of those nights (or days) and it all starts to go wrong I simply dial up the magnets a bit on the reel and revert to the OTG cast for a few goes .... it seems to calm things down and get you back to concentrating the mind back on the fishing rather than the casting which helps the self confidence I find.

Sounds like you`ve got the answer there as the heavier gear takes a bit more hanging on to especially if its a lot stiffer action. Perhaps the people with matched pairs are not just `tackle tarts'. big grin

I fish with a matched pair using the same weight on both with the braking syytem set the same, that way if I have got one right then the other is no problem and I dont have to adjust from one to the other. Cheers keith big grin big grin big grin
