Anybody know of any areas to dig black lugworm or white ragworm? Ive found good ragworm beds & blow lug beds but no black lug or white ragworms.

Its costing me a fortune at bait shop & my mrs has put her foot down about the amount im spending. Bloody credit crunch.

Im in tynemouth area but can travel upto 50 miles north or south.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Im not familiar with the area but I suppose if it would be that productive it could be worth a trip.

Is the pub easy to find by road? Just I can use this as a mark to head for if I do come down.

Thanks, rob

You forgot to mention wading through 2 to 3 foot of gungy mud to get on to Kilnsea clays, and that it is bloody hard work digging there, digging compacted clay as opposed to sand.

I have dug there times many, and I would not want you to give the impression that it's easy pickings, plus, the beds there are struggling to cope with demand.

I would hate someone to spend a lot of money on fuel to drive there when equally good beds could be found locally.

im not afraid of a bit of hard graft. where dig my ragworms isnt exactly a walk in the park.

Obviously it will cost a bit in petrol & i would prefer to dig closer to home, but due to my lack of knowledge because im still new to the sport, I dont know any alternatives.

Im just grateful someone was willing to help a fellow angler out & share what he knows. Ive found there are a lot of selfish people in fishing who are eager to see newbies like myself fail. Ive overheard many comments in the fishing club i joined about how clueless i was, how im stealing thier fish, & how funny it is to see me spending a fortune on my bait when they get thiers for nowt. What they forget is they were new to it once upon a time & everybody has to learn. the best way of learning is asking people.

Of course, after you ask people you have to say a silent prayer that your asking a decent person & not one of the selfish gits who want to see you fail for thier own amusement.

Looks like I'm the bad guy for trying to warn geordie_boy that it is not the worm mecca that it sounds like.

First, the beds are struggling, through years of relentless digging, plus, this weekend is the Daiwa open, with around 2000 anglers taking part, they will have got their worms from Spurn.

I do not want to keep Kilnsea bait beds a secret, indeed, I do not use worm myself, relying on baits such as mussel, oyster, squid and prawn.

Believe me, the clays are the last place I want to go.

If you want directions, and you can't miss the pub, head to Kilnsea, follow the road, the pub is on the left just before a sharp left hand turn, with Kilnsea bay on your right.
Park on the corner, and walk straight out through the mud.
You will eventually come to hard ground, start looking there, or perhaps turn right and look down there.

These are the GPS co-ordinates for the pub:

Latitude 53°37'11.28"N

Longtitude 0° 7'46.13"E

These are directions from Tynemouth to Kilnsea:

My apologies salt, I wasnt aiming my rant at you.

You appear to be the type of person who takes time & fully explains things to people. I wouldve got there expecting sandy beach but thanks to your input I know what to expect.

Tips & shared knowledge like that in my opinion, you cant put a price on & im very grateful for you taking the time to share it with me. Also a 2nd thanks for directions to get there, they will prove very handy indeed.

Apologies again & thanks everyone for the input.

No problem m8,

Try and pick a good spring tide which will give you a lot longer to dig, and if possible, try it on a warmish spell of weather, any frost and the beggars dig themselves down to Australia very quickly, real hard going then.

There is a mix of blowlug and yellowtails on there, size and quantity has diminished over the years, and you will need a good strong potato fork with wide tines.

Don't try trenching, as the worms are not that close together, and it is hard ground, dig them individually.

This is the pub:

This is Kilnsea Clays:
