Hi Mate,
OK... first of all there may not be too many around now but there will be some. The following tips have worked for me in Cornwall although not so late in the year but you still have a good chance of a stray bigger one.
Make sure the wind is on the beach somehow... anything behind you is nigh on a waste of time.
Baits would be.... lugworm, ragworm and sandeel (fresh or frozenbut fresh better)
I usually fished with two rods one in behind the breakers and the other right into them.
I would have a single hook sliding paternoster with a grip and a big bait ie... loads of lug or rag on the end behind the surf (a whole calamiri does the same job on different beaches)... make sure you have the ratchet set and the reel on free.... the bites will be ferocious most of the time and leave you with a little slack.... leave it until you get another tug.
Again a single hook sliding paternoster without a grip and the sandeel in the surf.... if thats only 20m then so be it......same idea with the setting of the rod and the reel.
Dont put any huge lights on the surface of the water.... I used a headlamp only when I needed it.
So hope this helps and good luck....hopefully have a positive catch report from you then...??
Regards

| It would be good to put a big bait out on the bottom and fish another rod with your lures or a live sandeel. ... that way, most bases covered. Some good ideas have been mentioned ie... a bubble float with a redgill behind it (would be good with sandeel) |
