I tried spinning (luring??) for Bass yesterday for the first time (wahey!). The sea was calm and I watched about 100yds from the sand a load of 'activity'. I cast the lspinner over and slowly dragged it back. I did see a few fish jumping (red underbellies and silver bodies so im sure they where bass). I watched as they followed the lure, and that was it, they never took it! Any ideas? I am new to spinning, luring bass!! Could these have been Mackeral?
Basically any advice please!? |

mackerel have silver underbellies and get to a stripy dark blue as you get higher up the fish, and if feeding they will usually go for most lures.
if in doubt try again from a different cast angle |

Does this look like the fish you saw mate , that's a Bass you got the right idea though keep trying with the spinner and you may get lucky .

If the fish were jumping clear of the water, it's highly unlikely they were Bass. Most likely Mullet or Sea Trout. |
