I go shrimping quite often using a cheap cylinder net about 2 foot long with a hole at each end , I put a 500ml pop bottle in with a slit up one side and a few holes punched in it , I put a mackkie head and guts in through the slit drop it in leave it 15 mins or so and then retrieve it the shrimps make excellent live bait, the bottle stops any crabs mashing the bait so it stays effective. hope this helps mate. happy
Cheers Steve

Hi rab, dougfish in heysham had a go with a homemade push net in the bay not at the best time of tide or in a good place and still got a few dozen and small flatties and waders full of cold briny. Info off another site says the shrimp tail off about now , don`t know if its temperature , rainwater or a million whiting biting `em. ....sniggle

I have used an old micro mesh keep net that coarse fishermen use, its 10 years old and still going strong. Just cut one down to the length you want, put in a couple of weights to hold it down and attach a polythene or polyester rope. You should be able to get a second hand net fairly cheap.
They are a good live bait, but they also taste nice so the fish dont get much of a look in from me.

We've been using a baited drop net, seems to work better than the shrimp traps. Have had a really good variety of things caught in it, some big prawns, hermits, flaties, bait fish and even a decent sole or two. Spend less than £15 on a good one, including 50m of rope and it will have paid for itself within a few sessions.

Catching sole in a drop net seems unusual what were you baiting the net with, worm ?

Like the light idea, do you use glow sticks and do you put them in the bait pot?
Cheers Steve
