Hi All,
well i've managed to find my way to making a post past all of those sticky's at the top of the south forum!!!
fished maggy lane today weather good, no wind, fished high water all the way down.
rigs used two hook flapper's
bait used rag
fish caught smoothey's, channel whiting and of course the classic magy lane pout!!!
can i just take this opportunity to have a little winge? i have been using this site for a while now, and when i was a newbie i found it most informative and usefull, which is great and seem's to have set me on my way to be a successfull fisherman . but it seems as time goes by us boys in the south seem less willing to give EACHOTHER feedback and support!!! ocassionally it just appears as though most of the post's on the south's forum are information for the weekend out of town fisherman who want advice and tips of our local marks!! i'm all for that but i don't really want to help them out if i have to go and litter pick for the one's that make a mess and leave us who live in the area to clean up behind them.
This is an open forum and i'm looking forward to seeing what other people recknon. |

funny that mike but to make a post the button is above all them sticky post plus the sticky post will either die out after the comp or get deleted and the other sticky post about avatars are there for all forum members not just south coast and tbh but about 30% of the avatars of members is due to that post umm the link's post is about links to other site what will help member's with rules .
sorry for my rant mate but to me the forum is the same when i join but with alot more members and a few are newbies who want info but cant give it back so id say we all had to learn somewhere .

Gazza i really do appreciate how much time and hard work it takes you and others to keep this forum running, i also appreciate the fact that the sticky's are there for a reason and usually a charitable one at that!!
however you surely must agree that time after time you arrive at marks that have been blatently abused? i will admit that i probably jump the gun ocassionally but i find it so frustrating to see this happening to some of the best fishing marks in the south. perhaps it is up to us more responsible anglers to just advise newcomer's towards our surrounding's and environment rather than just which bait and rigs to use.
i in no way wish to offend anyone but forums are supposed to be there for discussion purposes and i strongly believe that this is something that needs discussing, i alone can not make a difference but as a forum perhaps we can make a difference even if only one visitor takes there litter home with them.

sorry mike think i got the wrong end of the stick , your on about the mess on the place's we love to fish ??????
well i help out as much as i can , the comps post i can explain dannypanter ask me in pm to give a member directions so i thought il make a post to help any-one wanting to come to the event and that will be deleted or made unsticky same as the comp post , im all for cleaning the beach after a fishing trip m8 and il be 100% in helping to get the message across even if it means to make another post sticky , if you want to work on a post about tidying the beach and any hints and tips to get rid of the crap , i dont think any member of this site would moan about a post with the message take your tackle home .
i been at the shingle bank lots of times and pick up other anglers line hooks and general rubbish and il speak as a normal member now and not a mod but if i took my kids to the beach and one of my kids fell over and ended up with a hook in there hand id go ******* MENTAL and if i saw a angler lobbing there rubbish all over the place id walk over to there rods and throw them in the water with a quote is this shite as well . i do feel the same about it mate .
thanks

Hi griff69
Where do i start?
I appreciate your comments on the disgarded litter, unfortunately it occurs all over the uk
With regard to blaming "visitors"sometimes take a look at the locals who fish the area, probably not members of this forum, who alledgedly pleasure fish.
I can assure you that whenever i fish,on my own or with others, members of the forum or not,all rubbish is taken and disposed of in the correct manner
Myself, being landlocked, and others are always"visitors"to areas when we get to go fishing, are we to blame? I think not!
We had a meet last saturday and i can assure you there was not an ounce of rubbish left on the beach, there were about a dozen of us.
I have been to the venue in the past and collected empty cans, bait packaging, line etc
I guess left by the locals,but it`s the"visitor"
who you seem to want to blame
As for sharing info,we all try to do our bit, whether it be answering a question, posting a report or just congratulating a fellow member on their catch
Regards from a very disgruntled "visitor" |

i'm not trying to point the blame at anyone!!!
i am simply trying to preach a message of conservation
unfortunatly it is the " LOCAL ANGLER " Who fishes the same mark week in week out that gets it in the neck when line, hooks etc hurt there dogs or kill the bird's !!
as you say in your previous post you are landlocked which means you probably don't get to fish every other night like i do. therefore i'm out there that more often and see the consequence's.
and believe you me that we never see the same fisherman twice!! i like to talk to other anglers when they are fishing, to see how there getting on and ask have they fished here before and the general feedback is quite simply that they are indeed visitors.
you should hold your head high at the fact that you know you left a place as you found it not get at me for pointing out pure fact |

Can we turn the heat down a little guys?
Littering of coastal waters is a global problem and can't be blamed on any group of people other than those who are too lazy to clear up after themselves. All we can do is ask those we see littering to pick it up again, clear up after ourselves, pick up anything we see lying around and take any knocks knowing that we didn't deserve them. Considering most of the country doesn't live directly on the coast many people will be visitors and many visitors respect the areas that they fish as much as the locals. the litterers are always the minority of fishers and the majority of yob culture.
As for getting hooks in body parts I trod on a rig washed up on the beach in Ireland partially covered by sand... it is among the most painful experiences possible at a beach so I have total sympathy for all those who end up doing something similar. (on the plus side it was a free 6oz lead)
If you want notices up, write to your council... or get a petition together. |

Well said,
You cant make assumptions that its the 'out of town' anglers who litter the beaches with their crap. It is a small minority of all fishermen from coastal and inland towns and are'nt we all visitors to the beach, unless you live on sandbanks then you fish from your back garden or luxury boat. I live a good hour away from the nearest beach and would just love come and fish every other night but some of us just are'nt that fortunate. When i do come down i and the friends im with ALWAYS make a concious effort to tidy up after ourselves and on occasions after others. Often it is line etc that has been washed up. I mostly fish Southbourne and they local council provide big bins for gash just at the back of the beach and it is very clean there so it obviously works. A few bits of paper and an empty botle doesnt weigh much so come on litter bugs, take you rubish to the nearest bin.

Hi Griff
I am new to sea angling (3 months ish) but I have to say as I have before it is just not anglers that leave rubbish laying around....since the "high" season has been and gone litter has become less.
Yes I do still find discarded line and stuff now and again but always ends up in a bin (usually at home).
The thing is local non carers are fishing their marks week in and out so as long as they leave their rubbish it will always be a problem.
Yes some visitors are to blame because as with all things in life not all are like minded decent folk.
It is just not angling that is effected but regards angling litter (like line) as you know this can be deadly to wildlife etc..all we can do is our bit each time we fish and take it on the chin when singled out.
As for the forum side of things I have been on and moderated a few forums over the years and this one is a top dog with so much info (well done chaps).
All forums have regulars (daily posters) and once in a blue mooners (post when ever a biggie comes etc)
I tend to post when I have been out fishing as I like to share what I can whereas others may not want more anglers fishing their favoured marks.
we are all individuals with different mind sets so Patience can be the greatest gift of all.
great report btw
all the best
