hi
i'm out on the boat for the first time (november) told i'm targeting conger,spurdog? and cod what would i need bait wise .live or lure

I assume you're wreck fishing as conger are expected.
Fresh pouting fillets are an excellent bait but you will have to catch them on your trip. If you cant do that, frozen mackerel is a good alternative.
Cod will take lures and pirks, but ask the skipper what lures (colour and type) are working best, because it varies around the country and for different conditions. A quick courteous call to the skipper for advice a few days before the trip will help you to prepare, he should be only too pleased to help, because he wants you to do well so that you will come back. winking winking

Hi Bigjim, Frozen squid or cuttle if you can find it , frozen macks are good for conger and as bucko said any small fish you catch will make good bait . 150lb mono will do for conger traces with 8-10/0 heavy wire hooks.
Didn`t know there were any spurdog about but if you fish for them you will need wire traces as their teeth go through nylon first nibble. Where you out from ? I hope you get good weather........sniggle

SOUTHAMPTAM MATE upps got told spurdog and we're leaveing from pompey .nevermeind a nice cong will do lol

Don`t forget a butt pad or you will come back with 2 belly buttons.
