Hi i have started another post on this subject but on the advice of another forum member i'm posting it under another heading i'm new to sea fishing and before i go out and buy any tackle i'd like to go out with another angler and gain some experience. I'm looking to meet any angers in weston super mare who would be hapy for me to join them on a session and watch them fish and ask questions.
Thanks Jay |

hello Jay,I fish a lot from "the rock" but mostly sand point when I can be bothered to walk that far. Living in weston can be pretty hard on the fishing cos there isnt really a lot gets to the beaches as I catch it all at the point before it gets here lol. There are lots of very useful local characters like "the twins" who have been fishing this area for centuries (colin wont thank me for that) and these are the people to speak to. If you just wander down to the knightstone island or the beach near the sea life centre you are bound to come across some locals who may or may not as the case may be be of use to you. If you want real advice from real fishermen then head off to the very difficult to reach areas like the end of sand point, that are hard to reach and even downright dangerous, just make sure you can actually see that someone is fishing there first. Observe the waters height, speed and distance, check that you can get back to where you where safely, do not proceed past any low lying areas as these can be cut off and you will need assistance from the RNLI but if you do not take a mobile phone then dont worry, no one will know. |

Hi Jay, welcome.
A bit cheeky I know, but I fish at Knightstone sometimes and am wanting to get upto either Kewstoke or sand bay/point sometime soon when the wind isn't right in me face.
If you want, you are welcome to tag along with me next time I go - I may not be able to give you much advice as I'm still starting out but the best bit of advice I CAN give is - get as much as much info as you can.
It's no good listening to just one or two people as they have all been doing it for different lengths of time and probably very different ways. You have to just start it and you will find your own way of doing things....although the basics - line strength/knots/hooks etc you can learn from watching/asking but the rest is up to you.
Also, it would be good to go with someone for a change!!
Cheers, Phil |
