|
|
Used fixed spool, but really fancied trying multiplier. Got most of it sussed but dont know how to rest it on my tripod. Looked through as many pictures as I can in mags, tried to remember what I've seen on the beach, etc and have seen some spool down, some spool up. When I rest mine it naturally turns over spool down BUT at an angle?
Also if spool up does this affect the bite indication??
I aint got a clue (and thats not only fishing)
Any answers appreciated to a numpty (sorry I mean newbie) |

| reel facing up every time. I put a single cup holder on my tripod so the coasters when put at the right angle, make the rod stay in its correct place. |

Based on the assumption that a fishes eyesight isn't good enough to notice wether you have the reel spool up or down go with whatever makes you happy ..... and the bite indication will be no different whichever way you use it!
Rather than worry about this kind of stuff (which quite frankly doesn't make a damn of difference to anything and is really not that important in the greater scheme of things) why not put your energy into learning about the important things like bait and beachlore - that will catch you more fish.
If you are using the cups on a rest to get the rod tip higher (and the line off of the water and away from waves and weed) you will probably have to have the reel on top simply to avoid fouling the rest anyway.
If you fish on concrete promenades and the like beware of using cups though ... if you get a sudden hit off a decent fish or pick up a huge raft of weed the first indication you normally get is when the rods and rest are dragged over and your gear is thrown over the concrete. If you rest the rod butt on the concrete the offending rod will normally swing round and give you a chance to grab the offending rod before it takes the whole lot out. |

As long as you make sure you know if the line is below the top rest or not when you strike! Made that mistake when i started out a couple of times. |

Mudlark.
I have spent quite a bit of time trying to make sure I am learning as much as I can from every available source. This forum, experienced anglers, bait shops, poss joining fishing club, etc, etc.
This question on here was just a silly little question that I couldnt get my head round as Ive never used a multiplier before and it just seems to spin on the rest into a position that I wont be able to strike and reel in from? |

No sorry ... I'm puzzled of course the rod spins round, its because the multiplier is taking it round to its natural resting position. You pick rod up, turn rod over and reel in, simple really, been doing it for over 30 years never found it difficult. Striking .... what difference does it make which way up the reel is and actually if you really need to strike fast then the worst thing you can do is stuff the butts in the cups, you do things a bit clumsy and the whole lot hits the beach. With the chemically sharpened hooks we use the honest truth is you rarely need to strike these days,
There are a million and one ways of sticking your rod in the rest and quite frankly they are all a matter of personal preference. I use reel on top when using the cups as the reel would foul the rest otherwise - all other times reel down (cos its easier and theres no particular advantage to reel up). As I said, quite frankly it won't make a damn of difference which way up the reel is it doesn't effect bite detection in any way. Some like em up, some like em down and some (like me) will use both to suit practicalities.
If you reely need to be totally ready to strike or reel in had you thought about holding the rod all the time? |

| some people have preferences which is exactly what i mentioned. I know people who line the upper rest with lagging or similar which means the rod wont move. personal preference and its good to see people saying theirs, as they should do !!!!!!!!!!! |
