|
|
hi, im looking to buy a fixed spool reel to go with my 10" and 13" rods.
i recently got a multiplier but havent used it yet and decided i might put it away till im a bit more experienced.
i want a reel that will easily pull in a dog or ray from rocks or piers.
i called to a local shop and they were pushing a few on me but they also reccomended the reel i have now and that struggles with more than 2 mackerel on feathers.
any suggestions???
cheers. |

cheers for the reply merv.
im looking to spend around the 50-60euro mark(or about £40-£50) but id spend a bit more if the reel was highly reccomended. i dont want to be buying something that ill be looking to replace in a year or 2.
a guy in the local fishing shop reccomended the okuma longitude 65 which was 75euro(£60) but was a bit bulky, id rather something a little smaller but if the reel is pretty good id put up with it.
anyone know much about this reel?? |

I use the Okuma Eclipz EZ-65, slightly dearer I think but well made.
After saying that a member has had a problem with the line cutting a grove in the bale arm although I haven't had this problem. Cheers keith |

here is a link to one e-bay shop thats selling them its free post to the uk but to ireland it would be about 10-15 euro extra but for a reel like this i would pay it here is what they say about it and the link
PENN SURFMASTER 70
ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE FOR A LIFETIME
ONE OF OUR TOP SELLING BEACH REELS TRIED AND TESTED ALSO POWERFUL ENOUGH FOR UPTIDING AND BOAT CASTING
Surfmaster reels spool design and drive systems have improved beyond most anglers imagination over the last decade. At Penn the evolution continues with the Surfmaster 70 fixed spool reel taking it one step further. The coned spool is longer than conventional modern reels, Penn have also reduced the diameter to take full advantage of the benefits inherent in the design. A spool lip diameter of 60mm above a 38mm deep spool holds a minimum of 300 yrds of 0.35mm mono, more than enough for fishing purposes.
Coils cast off this spool are tighter resulting in less friction with resulting improvements in distance. The long stroke oscillation system lays the line evenly over the length of the spool thus decreasing an already low friction level over the spool lip. Retrieving line too is improved by the use of three ball bearings, one roller bearing and a balanced rotor. Not to mention the titanium shield oversized line roller incorporating o profile that reduces line twist to a minimum.
A forged brass main gear with a brass pinion ensures precise spool alignment during power transmission. Gearing is 4:8:1 fast enough for rapid retrieve while powerful enough when the going gets tough. When engaged an advanced anti reverse system ensures all backward movement in the rotor is eliminated. The spool is made from aluminium forging incorporating a coil spring loaded drag knob for precise control and a spare graphite spool is included.

i havent tried it yet but hope to try it out today if the weather satys nice.
