Hi
I used to fish there quite regularly. My father was the attendant of the Lighthouse. I moved over to Ireland in 1998 so don't know how it is fishing these days. I would interested in finding out how you get on.
When I fished there I used to go about 300-400yrds to the right of the lighthouse (if you had your back to the lighthouse). My ex caught a 10lb cod when I was with her one day. I was gutted as I have not caught anthing that size before or since.
How are you getting to the Beach? via Aldeburgh or by boat from Orford Quay?

I am also going to orford in the next couple of weeks.I will not use the ferry as my mates got stuck on the shingle spit.for sixteen hours.the ferry owner could not get out to pick them up as the weather was too bad.
And a seven mile walk was abit too far with all the fishing gear |

How do you get to Orford Island without the ferry or the long walk?
I haven't fished there but have been meaning to for some time. It was just the hassle of having to get a boat accross etc that has put me off in the past |

When I lived in Orford the Harbour Master used to take parties of fishermen over to the Island (Ness). I guess now that the site is owned by National Trust that they allow fishermen to use the ferry also (LCGF3). The only other way to get onto Orford Beach is via four wheel drive, quad bike or with a long walk from Slaughden Quay in Aldeburgh. |

I will ask about how to get over to the beach.and find out how much it costs plus a timetable.as I am staying in Orford next week.
But I plan on fishing at Felixstowe.having been out of fishing for a few years.what could I expect to catch in march.and what would you use as bait.
Orfordpiece correct me if I am wrong but I thought they had banned all vehicles from Orford beach. |

Leedsfan, they may have done so now. It is over 7 years since I have been fishing in the area. If you are in the Jolly Sailor whilst you are staying in Orford have a pint of Adnams's for me.
The Jolly used to be my local. If you look to the left hand side of the bar you will see lamps from Orford Ness Lighthouse. |
