The other thing you can do is to freeze them on the hooks that are on a snood, transport them in a vacumm flask and use them when needed, they dont fly of the hooks.

I tried mussels yesterday, much more of a mess than I had expected, but I did have some success, my first ever fish, a bass - so thanks for the tip

Has anyone tried salting mussel to toughen em up a bit, a very ancient angler i knew always used to keep a jar of salted slipper limpet for emergencys and they got him a good few bass and plaice from hayling. I believe some northern types (aka rab ) even salt their mackerel to keep it on the hook.

Hi Guys, thanks for the idea, I tried mussels, really awkward and messy, however, when wrapped up with elastic presented a juicy bait. I am proud to announce I then caught my first bass with them, so many thanks for the tip
