Hi i am new to the area and i am looking for some good area's to fish that are not to busy as my son as just started fishing and is still in the early stages of learning and worries about getting snagged up with other people lines.
We tend to either float fish or spin and have usally done this off the rocks in cornwall.
Looking for some idea's of where to head, we live in Bournemouth and are looking to go on Tuesday afternoon/evening.
Can you also tell me what is being caught and where at the moment.
Thanks in advance for any advice given

Lots of choice in that area, The piers for float fishing for mackerel gar or scad, maybe a bass. Hegistbury Head long groyne, heading eastward, the groynes at Sandbanks or, within Poole Harbour, Lake Pier for float fishing.
When float fishing a big cast is not usually needed from groynes and piers, the current will take the float away and in any case the fish are attracted to the structures.
Swanage Pier is good for beginners but shuts at about 6pm.

Good luck

Welcome!

A good place to float & spin is Hengistbury Head main groyne. It's a 20 min walk from the car park (not cheap parking, I'm afraid) but it can fish well in a variety of conditions for mackerel, garfish, scad, small pollack, wrasse, the odd bass, etc. Also, there's no need to cast very far - in fact it can often be best not to cast far.

Otherwise, I would suggest doing a search for different venues, as there are many threads that contain all the info you need.

for a begginer looking for a any fish any size definently hh groyne! chuck on a 1-2-3 hook flapper with wrag being best bait or mackerel and cast 10 yards out and you will have wrasse all day! some of a decent size! i wouldnt spin down there as i have seen lots of people spinning and i havnt seen 1 fish caught! there are a few bream aswell! also a few gar and mackerel if the right conditions! also i was told about a place on southbourne beach! along the broadway road there is a turn off onto harbour road down there is free parking and a little path onto the beach! you could try there as it isnt as windy as hh! if hh is windy then it is a waste of time tbh! also poole harbour can produce bream and bass aswell as flatties in the winter! ( cant wait for that ). if you need any more info pm me and i will gladley help!

thanks, greg

Welcome mate not my area im afraid, just started taking my son I found it best to find a spot on the open beach away from everyone probably early evening tide.I found rag worm the best as most fish will take it and you should get plenty of bites, got to keep the next generation of fishermen/women interested quality time with the kids too.

I don't know what these other guys are doing with their spinning, but I've caught loads of fish spinning from here - mackerel, gar, pollack mainly.

Just one word of warning. If there's a big wind, the groyne can be a little dangerous, as the waves crash over it and the surface gets very slippery.
