Mussels are a top bait are are often overlooked by the newbie. They are a killer bait for all fltties and have been known to take speicmen whiting and codling. Give it a try and let me know the results. Dont forget bait elastic. cheers keith big grin big grin big grin

Slipper limpet is a dam good bass bait after there has been a bit of a blow. In certain places they get washed up on beaches at times during a storm and the bass come looking for hem in the few days after the storm. Last September one old geezer I know (no not me although I am an old geezer) had 17 bass in the space of 5 hours one morning all on slipper limpet which he had picked up from the beach.

Ive tried using mussels before, last winter actually, but they were such a pain too get them too stay on the hook, and what a mess they make!! What I done though was used a squid body, and wrapped that around it and a bit of bait elastic to keep it all together. Worked wonders for the Whiting and I even had a few Codling (3-4lb) on it over the course of the winter. But Slipper Limpets........ I'm afraid I wouldnt even know what one looked like confused

go to your local supermarket and look on the fish counter! they sell them in kg about £3 per kg! if you are going to use within a few days put them in the fridge! if a week or so freeze them and they will be fine to use! do not buy any cooked fish etc as it is rubbish!

hope that helps! greg

the only problem with mussels, is that they are really soft and gooey and hard to get them to stay on your hook !!!

One trick that I have learnt is to use the bait elastic whilst still on the baiting needle, this avoids the job being so fiddley as when slid onto the hook the whole lot is intact. Hope this helps give it another try. Cheers keith big grin big grin big grin
