Is it just me of has August been generally a rubbish month, both weather and fishing?
Well no-more.
I arived at Charmouth about 0430h (yes that is in the morning) for a high tide at 0717h. There was a very gentle easterly wind, damn i think, get up early just for the wind to kill any fishing.
The first cast using small mackeral slices the rod tip goes right over, grab it just to feel a big pull and then nothing. Reel it in to see the mackeral chewed up, just put it back onto the hook and cast it out a short distance while i set the other rod up before i rebait them.
A few minutes later reel in the rod and thought that i must have caught some weed as there rod is pulling in my hands, no its a bass. Let me say that again as its the first one i have ever caught, ITS A BASS. Yup, duck broken got a bass, was only just over a pound but its still a bass, and over 2 hours until high tide. The mornning and lack of sleep is looking good.
Come 0730h and not a single other bite, tried using squid and crab and worms and all sorts of combinations with no luck.
Then catch 2 more tiny bass, seen bigger mackeral.
5 minutes before i have to get home to rod goes over again, this time a much bigger bass. I can see the thing fighting me. Must be nearly 6 feet long (well i can dream) just as the shock leader get to the top ring it shakes its head and is gone. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Ah well at least the knots held.
Thats my news (sorry no photo's as i am rubbish).
