Hi,
I'm very new to this website and joined to get some advice, hope you can help.
I'm off on hols to Cornwall next month.
Previously I've taken boat trips to fish for mackerel with a line on a block.
I'd like to have a go at fishing from a beach or rocks this year.
I have no experience of this other than when I was about 8 years old.
What kit do I need? As I have nothing as inexpensive as possible. Also any tips on bait/lure and finding a good spot etc?
Help much appreciated and please accept my apologies for lack of knowledge. |

Well presumably you need a fixed spool reel like the Silstar RD70 at £38 and a Shakespear beachcaster like Shakespear mustang beachcaster 4 to 6oz 3 section at about £35. Hope this helps. keith |

I've never fished at Polzeath but I've been on holiday surfing a few times. Its a big open sandy surf beach with lots of rocks either side. I would be really careful fishing from the rocks cos these North Cornwall surf beaches throw up big waves from nowhere. If its rough the waves are huge......like huge (can be 8ft or more) , and very fast
If you fancy a days fishing i would suggest a day trip from Padstow or maybe a late session on the beach fishing down the side close to the rocks. after the surfers have gone. Have a look when the tides out and work out hwere you would like to fish. Certainly on the east side there are a couple of paths down to the beach which yous could fish from relatively safely when the tides in. I have seen bass in the water while surfing so i know they are there. They wiill come in to as little as a foot of water so you don't need to cast miles, but the second or third line of breakers is usually a good guide.
as i said, i havn't fished there myself but I reckon you would need 4-6oz breakaway to hold bottom. it may be more interseting to spin a redgill with say 1/2oz to an oz of wight and 6ft of trace, or maybe a dexter |

Thanks for your help. As I say I'm a novice. Am I right in thinking a "redgill" is a lure that looks like a little fish but has a hook in it? breakawy being the brand of rod and 8oz the weight of the rod? been reading some web postings and it seems pentire point is a good place for mackerel. |
