Hi all, been fishing recently at Beesands (twice in three days and with 5 kids in tow).
Mackerel are in reasonably good supply and I caught 3 Pollacks, good sizes, in 10 minutes about 8 at night with an incoming tide. One caught on Rag, One on Mackie and the last on a cocktail of the rag/mackie.
All caught within 30 yards of shore.
Going again tomorrow, with kids, will update if anything else.
Only problem at the monent at Beesands are the boats. Some pratt thought it great to let his kids play within 10 feet of anglers and another cuaght my line with his speedboat.

well done and unlucky! What actually happens when it gets caught, does it snap the line or do you catch the boat and try and reel in a boat? lol

Unfortunately samee your line will probably snap causing you to lose any gear on the end of it. I havehad this problem with the boats in Plymouth as they cut right in where I fish seeing how many lines they can get in one pass. Have even had one come back aroundfor anothertry after he missed on the first attempt........Colin |

I remember getting my line snagged at Elphinstone, Plymouth on the propeller of a passing boat. It didn't snap and the boat kept taking line. Manged to get scissors out of my tackle box and cut it just before it took rod, reel and nearly me along with it as i was holding on for dear life! |

Thats where I fish luckily each time it has happened to me Ihave had a light breaking strain line on my reel so it went after a while but only after it had stripped most of it from the spool |

Yeah they really annoy the hell out of me. Like you said they aim for all the lines, i swear! I'm sure they all have a good laugh about it as well. I don't go fishing there very often as I'm originally from Saltash and did the majority of my fishing on the Cornish side of the Tamar. But now living in Wiltshire and fish down in Dorset. I live in St Budeaux at the moment and am looking at going down under the bridge. Do you know any decent marks down there....Colin |

Hi Cookiemonster. I didn't get a lot of joy up around the bridges, not on the Saltash side anyway. My uncle used to fish a spot up around Ernesettle which used to produce some good size Bass. My favorite used to be the point where the Lynher meets the Tamar opposite Bull Point. Fished at low tide coming up for the first 3 hours, it produced many Schoolie Bass, Pout, Flatties and the odd Thornie. Then if i had any bait left over i finished off on the small jetty at Wearde Quay. Nothing big caught there except a 4lb Bass once, but a very nice spot on a calm night. Usually best on a spring tide by the way. Plus it's a good spot to dig your own bait and collect peeler crab at low tide. Mike Roberts. |

Well, as promised, a report from yesterday.
Only took 3 children and the wife but put 7 rods in. The others used feathers, I had two baited with rag and one with mackie. We fished for 2 hours of outgoing tide and then 6 on the incoming. Although a few bites were there we caught nothing all day. Well except from when I pulled in the last rod to pack up. Nothing on the line till 15 yards from beach when a pouting took the bait. Would like to brag about the size but would have needed about 20 to make a sandwich!!! Needless to say he was put back to grow to at least a mouthful.
Spoke to some other anglers, there were about 10 more fishing the evening incoming, only one more pout was caught.
For anyone debating fishing Beesands the following might be of use.
Although the beach is shingle, about 40 yards out at low tide are weed beds that seem to slope steeply. Weights sink in the sea bed and can be hard to retrieve. There are also some rocks that cannot be seen even at low tide.
It is best to fish here after 6pm as there is a Camping/holiday park close by and the beach is frequented by walkers that try their hardest to be decapitated by lines.
Nearest tackle shop is in Chillington, approx 6 miles away. There is a small convenience store in Beesands but it closes at 4.30pm and has a very limited range.
Good points, parking is right by the beach and there are toilets open all night if the need arises.
If you are stayiing for the night the locals dont mind camping on the beach but you will get pi@@ed off by the Lighthouse. It makes it hard to work out if your tip is moving as your eyes have to constantly refocus light levels.
Final hints, when you leave Chillington and head for Beesands, TURN OFF SATNAV, its wrong for this area and will send you to a hill top, Secondly, the roads are narrow and the Sign for Beesands is handwritten!!
Good luck if you go. Tight line all.
