Not sure of fishing off the beach there. I have a boat and have caught mackeral just off there and around the point. Budleigh Salterton is known to have mackeral off the beach as is Exmouth Docks. Tiger Charters do little trips if you want a bash. They are based on the seafrount. There are a couple of places, like the mouth of the Otter in Budleigh and off the slipway in Exmouth where you might get a Bass if you want to try something else.
There is some advice on fishing from the docks in Exmouth here - http://southdevonfishing.org.uk/first.html |

was at sandy bay today having a paddle in all the weed lol
walk two miles west along the beach and you'll come to Orcombe point. Keep an eye on the tide if fishining here, but I've seen some nice plaice caught here in the past on lug or crab. If the tide allows you to walk on round keep your eyes open for predator activity around the breakwaters. If you can't walk round there is a very steep staircase to the top and then a zigzag path down the other side. Quite a few boats drift for bass along the Exmouth seafont with live sandeel. Use a very small bullet or even just a swan shot or two and at least 9ft trace.
Small pollack and mackerel are caught off the pier and I'm told bass off the slipway but there will be a lot of boat activity around there at the mo.
Loads of lug on Shelly beach inside the estuary and theres quite a good tackle shop in the middle of the town. fishmonger next door if you want mackerel/squid for bait, or one by the pier/dock/marina (cheaper) |

well didnt manage to catch anything from the beach , But caught a few bits from exmouth harbour , not many mackerel about but saw a few caught , My best catch was a 2lb+ mullet on baited sabikis when trying to show the kids some small stuff down the edge of the harbour wall

Just out of interest, what was the bait you had the mullet on? Were you floatfishing the sabikis or on a ledger? What depth do people float fish at at Exmouth Dock?
I've had very little luck spinning off the slipway at Exmouth recently at low or high tide- have had the odd mackerel and a couple of very small pollack on small feathers, but no sign of any bass. I've tried Dexters, redgills and a spoon, very disappointing :-(
Will try Budleigh tomorrow eve, hope there is something about, might even have a go for mullet in the river if the mackerel/ bass situation is desperate. My dad will be staying at Devon Cliffs at the end of the month and will no doubt be demanding some excellent fishing, so I hope I find a good spot before then!
