Hi Stowaway, and welcome. I just watched it, and its ridiculous what they are doing, To me they are destroying their own livelihood, and that of future generations of fishermen. The sea cant sustain such waste indefinately, and when the time comes when it costs them more to sail than they can earn, they only have themselves to blame, and deserve to be put out of business. These kind of people only care about making a fast buck now, with scant regard for the future of the fishing industry as a whole. If i were a wholesaler i would refuse to buy their catch, and let them go bust.

The eurocrats allow that to happen and tell other countries not to damage the rainforests for a quick buck . The man who pretends to be the skipper of that boat should get 20 years in jail , company quota and licence gone for good .

Sickening !

I just watched it and i find that shocking .

the fact on the vid it said about the boat having a quota and it aint allowed back to port being over that quota then surely the captain of that vessel is just plan greedy , he probably fill every single gap with fish so he makes enough wages to cover the cost of the trip plus a bit more and then he must of dumped about 4k of fish , if there was another boat near by not getting much then why not get on the radio and transfer some boxes across so the fish dont get wasted !!! sometimes i wish i could speak my mind about these *****s.

This act of wanten waste ought to be put on TV for the general public to view and then they may realise why they pay such high prices for the fish in the shops. There would soon be an outcry and perhaps the goverment of the day would then act. keith

Hi ya Stowaway have just watched it and it makes me sick to think that they can do that. I watched that programme on BBC1 last night called Trawlermen. Their was an irish boat featured on it who had been fined something like £40,000 for selling fish over their qouta. I am not condoning what I have just seen but after watching that programme I can understand a few of the reasons that makes them do it. The same boat also lost one set gear on the bottom at a cost of £20,000. How many other trawler nets are out there ready to be snagged by us the unfortunate occasional angler. At this point I must say that the boats featured on this programme where fishing the North Sea up by Norway.

Thats enough from me for now, I'll let someone else have their say.......Colin angry angry angry angry angry angry angry angry

i used to work on trawlers in the '80s and this was common practice due to eec regulations believe me the last thing we wanted to do was shovel fish over board as it is wasteful but our hands were tied, and dont forget that most of the fish was already dead in the trawl net,and there is no skipper that enjoys losing fish,to just watch your wages go overboard is heart bleeding.i can go on and on about this subject, but i wont
