Hi all, Me and a mate float fished around pulpet rock on sat 2nd sept, with no luck not even a bite, It was raining with a head on gale and quite a big sea smashing against the rocks producing some spectacular sprays!, got very wet even wearing the imax!!.
Diffrent story 2 weeks ago, with the same mate he managed 2 land 3 wrass (ballen) i think and 2 small pollock, all caught on a float with rag worm, nothing seemed 2 like the lug worm!,.
I was bottom fishing with no luck and had 2 call it a day by 1200pm as i'd lost all of my tackle in the rocks nd snags..
Does any body know of any tactics i can try 2 bottom fish with out loseing all my gear every time i reel in??
All help much appreaciated
Thanks in advance Sam.. |

Hi mate,
I would try using a rotton bottom link. Or you could try doing what the cornish do when rock fishing and use spark plugs so you keep the cost down on tackle loss. |

Hi Raymondo, The spark plug sounds like a good idea, as for the rotton bottom link, wot is it and how is it attached to the the main rig, i'd be using a pully pennel or a normal pennel.. Or is there a specially designed rig for this rotton bottom???. thanks Sam.. |

south of portland all along the bill and eastern side especially is well thick in weed, to fish there you certainly do not want to be using proper waits! the rest is just part of the fun im afraid hence why i prefer chesil |

Hi mate,
There isn't really a rig designed for a rotton bottom link, you can use it on most rigs. You can buy various types from different companies ie. veals, gerry's of morecambe etc. They fit to the bottom of your trace where you would normally put your lead link or snap link, there is then a small piece of light mono attatched to the lead and the other end is connected to the rotton bottom link, when the lead hits the water or the bottom, the rotton bottom link releases the lead so all that is holding it to your trace is the light mono. If the lead gets caught up in a crevvace or under a rock the light mono will snap and you only lose your lead or spark plug if that is what you are using.
Veals mail order sell rotton bottom links by Genie and they have all the instructions on them.

gemini lead links for me, the ones with the bait clip on,
tie them to your rig by the bend the weight normally sits in , light line from the eye to the weight and hook weight onto bait clip for casting  |
