Please remember in this part of the forum to click the reply button to post and Not the "New Post" button Also one main point to remember is that these new forums are intended to help totally new sea anglers to the sport so please post in great detail type of rods/reels used, explain about traces/rigs used, depth to fish and so on or anything else I have missed that you feel will help the novice sea angler.
We have a lot of species for which we can have a try but smoothhound from the ground - No. They usually get them by Boat as they do not approach the shore in our island, since they remain confined on a muddy breeding ground off the coast some 200m deep. Six gilled, smoothhounds, huss, and other bottom dwelling sharks rarely approach the shore in our island.
From the boat they use a paternoster rig baited with mackarel or sardines with size 2 hooks and .80mm traces. whoever goes for Smoothounds sometimes hooks the monstrous six or seven gilled shark, which gives quite a good fight. Other species that are caught by the same method include wreck fish and Species of deep water red bream called 'Bazuga'.
