I have noticed that a few people have purchased this reel for beachcasting and although it will do the job due to the amount of control you have over it great distances wont be achived as its primary design is that of a boat rod and as such I cant fault it for general boat fishing. Its superb for uptiding. My main concern is that tackle dealers either dont know their products or they just want to make a quick sale. Its the new anglers who ends up out of pocket because when they get to know what is available on the market, then they are left feeling very dissappointed. |

Thanks for the heads up Keith. I asked in my local tackle shop yesterday about multipliers for beachcasters and I think it was this model that he was trying to sell me. Luckily for me the treasurer (my missus) hasn't released any funds yet. |

Dont get me wrong you can cast with it and it has very good control but something like the Abu 6500 series would suit your needs better. Good Hunting. keith |

If its a boat reel then surely you would be better off with the LS (levelwind) as I reckon you would have problems cranking in a double figure cod whilst still trying to line lay reel up. ????
I see what you mean though about the beach reel as the 20 doesn;t seem to hold enough line whilst the 30 is too big. There was talk about a 25 but I haven't seen one yet - maybe wrong.
Better alternative is the standard 7HT instead of the Okuma. |

thats right zziply, you should really have level wind for boating, as these are no good for beach casting |

Well if you guys remember the ols Abu 7,000s wre originally classed as a beachcasting reel then when they brought out the 6,000 series they reclassified them as a light boat rod. The Okuma magntix has very similar specs as the old 7,000s but has far better cranking power for them double figure monsters.
On another note have you seen the new Abu 7,500C3? They are awsome. I purchased two of them. Far better than the old 7,000s
They would do both jobs Boat/Beach is cash were a problem. keith |

I think this is a matter of taste, and ability.
I have used this reel for nearly a year now and cannot fault it in any way. I bought the level wind as it was the first multiplier I bought and I thought it would be easier! (I now know that my cast's would be 30 yards better without it).
I agree that it holds less line than other reels. With my casting, I am never ever going to run out of line, or even worse find out how good that first knot is on the spool!! |

I use an abu 6500c powerhandle reel, can't complain about it,great reel for the price.
Had originally bought a Ron thompson'pioneer' which broke after about 3-4 casts, took it back and paid the extra £30 for the ABU reel!! |

Okuma have now brought out th Magnetix 45ls which has a wider spool trhn the 30ls. By the way the magnetix has a level wind so I not sure who it was that was under the misaprehension that it didnt I dont know. keith |
