|
| Please post your Tactics / Tips on how to catch Mackerel in your local area here. Please remember in this part of the forum to click the reply button to post and Not the "New Post" button Also one main point to remember is that these new forums are intended to help totally new sea anglers to the sport so please post in great detail type of rods/reels used, explain about traces/rigs used, depth to fish and so on or anything else I have missed that you feel will help the novice sea angler. |

| any feathers will work for mackeral, even bare hooks sometimes. shiney tinsels work better in sunny conditions and colourful ones in dull conditions, although ive found that the small green muppets will work better than anything else. any bait on the float will work but fish baits tend to be better, depths vary depending on the shoal |

How far out do you get them/
I'll be beachcasting in Anglesea and Barmouth soon and want to have a go at some.

Unless you are stocking up on bait I do not see the point of feathers.
The best fun is light tackle and a spinning rod using some kind of lure.
I've caught some specimen mackerel from Chesil this summer on Dexters and you tend to pick up the larger fish on a sizeable lure.
I've also had some fun at Swanage pier and picked them up on X-Raps (silver/blue).
I've stood fishing with a Dexter next to guys with feathers and I often seem to pick up larger fish (40 cm+) which give good sport on 10lb line, especially when they take the lure on the drop at distance.
Plus you might pick up a bass or gar in the same session (OK so you might on feathers but seems less likely). |
