I have fished from shore areas around Skye for a number of years. I would honestly say that Trotternish penninsula (north east side) has always been very good to me!!! I only ever fish small lures as alot of areas require a bit of a climb, therefore alot of tackle/big rods get in your way. Rocky marks are a plenty here try areas from Staffin bay down to Culnacnoc (brothers point) PLEASE BE CAREFUL the geology of the island makes it a spectacular place to fish/climb/walk but also makes it a dangerous area to fish if you are not used to it. I used the new ABU TOBY ROCKET lures in silver to great effect, these seem to be deadly for pollack. There are big fish off the rocks in Skye please note this !! and be prepared. This year I met more peolple fishing here than ever before. A very pleasant Liverpuddlian and his wife agreed with me that the rock fishing here is some of the best in the UK. I recommend whatever method you fish , you go prepared to catch the biggest of fish. double figure pollack are not un-common here and only a few metres out from the shore.

Oops double post , as for tackle remember the rocky marks will grab tackle off you!!! rotten bottom techniques with a redgill lure or spinning works for me. Any sandeel like lures will work, just please watch tides and be carefull on those rocks. I have never tried bait fishing from shore here as spinning seems deadly. flyfishing for pollock too is getting more popular. Also there are people who run boats who would be happy to take you out to an off-shore reef mark (at a price) just ask around or enquire at Staffin bay. Good luck and enjoy Skye!!! Head from Portree to Uig to Trotternish Peninnsula or take the road signposted "Staffin" from Portree , you wont believe your eyes when you see some of the seafishing to be had. I reckon brothers point to be very good and worth the climb. I fancy a weekend rock fishing up there...If anyone wants let me know and I can meet them there and take them to a couple of rock marks that are productive.
