how do u use cockles as bait ?? and wat r they good for catching ???? confused

I guess if you are casting over 50 yards or so you would use them like other shellfish, 2 or 3 on a hook secured with bait elastic.

Not sure what they are good for, dont think many people use them. You would be better off using mussels or limpet which would probably give you a better chance of catching.

Cockles are a good bait for wrasse. Not really a bait I would choose. There are so many baits far better available.

Mussels... - I tried using these before and gave up. They were too watery and couldnt get them on the hook... - Am I doing somehting wrong? They were fresh from the pier struts.

You must use bait elsatic to keep mussels on the hook, its a killer bait for flatties, ect. This is a bait often overlooked by most anglers. It worked in the old days no reason why it dont work now. keith

i used mussels in the winter caught quite a few small codling at about 70 yrds out
just hook them as many times as possible then secure with bait elastic
