I live on Anglesey and judging by your post you are the proud captor of Spider Crabs. I've been fishing around Anglesey for 30 years and I report that these crabs where not here ten years ago. These crabs march along the seabed in colonies looking for new grounds. They are a nuisance, they also cut your hook snoods. Did you catch anything else in Ty Croes besides monster Spider Crabs? |

The name Spider Crab is a collective name which covers hundreds of different species, one of them being the Pacific King Crab which you see on TV. A Spider Crab is any species of the decapod family Majidae (or Maiidae; class Crustacea). Just copied the last sentence from a quick google. |

Bigfish - Macky Rock is on Holy Island also known as Holyhead or in Welsh Caergybi. Macky Rock is situated about half a mile from Porth Dafarch beach on the right hand side as your looking out to sea. You will need to take the coastal footpath and I guarantee that you will pass somebody who has just been there providing it is fishable. I suggest that you look to see where other people are fishing. If the weather is good there will be an army of anglers on the rock. Don't bother if the wind is blowing from the South or West as large swells surge up and over the top of the rock. It is not easy to get down to the rock as you have to encounter a crevice with a sloping rock down to the mark. Has to be one of the best marks in North Wales, my mate caught the Welsh Record Mackeral there back in the 90's well over four pounds. Bottom fishing produces Ray, Tope, Smoothhound, Flaties, Gurnards, Codling and many more if you manage to get past the Doggies. |
