How much are you able to spend in total, inc safety gear and electronics etc? Are you planning on trailing the boat? Are you handy at repairs / renovation?
All of this will have a bearing on any answers that we can give. |

Now i'm jealous, somethings i've always wanted to achieve, but always talked myself out of it at the last mintue when about to buy one, you've prob already know about this but when i actually sit down and try to justify it, ie, how much it costs, maintenance n all along with hours of work involved. With how often it will get used. weighing up all the factors for when it woudl be possible to actually get out on the thing, (mostly weekends due to work and then the tide has to be right and then on top of that the weather!) all in all it seemed i woudl only get out a handfull of times a year, but if your work allows and as you say your sharing the boat with your mate then go for it. but all i boat owners i know suffer from twofootitus, whereas they always want a boat two foot bigger once the bug hits you |

With the limited budget you have your best bet will to keep an eye out on eBay, occasionally you get a real bargain on there but will probably need a bit of work done to it.
You are also going to need some basic electronics, fish finders start from under £100, and as the waters around your part of the coast are pretty featureless without one you will need it. Also, at least a hand held VHF and a GPS to get back in if the fog comes down. So I reckon you need to allow about £400-500 for electronics in total.
I would suggest that you buy half of the boat that your mate has. I dont think you are going to get a bigger / better boat than he already has for your budget. Is that not an option? |

I've been looking at small boats and havn't found ebay all that cheap. If you do a google search on boats and outboards it will give you a load of brokers with sales countrywide. You could pick up a tidy clearance boat and trailer for less than £400. You'd have to get a motor but most of the sites will have them 2nd hand too. Keep 'em tight. |

It's all part of the testing range and old garrison and you can't fish on it which is a pity 'cos thats probably where all the bloody fish have gone. The old garrison is being converted into housing so I'm betting that at some point in the near future it will get opened up along there |

I wouldn't like to say. The missus is a local lass and says that it may be that now the garrison is closed that the public can get access to it. I reckon your best bet is to contact the foreshore office or the coastguard and they may be able to clarify the situation. Keep 'em tight. |
