Hi all, nice to meat you!
I’ve got the bug and got it bad, I really have….ive fished for years (lakes/rivers) and just recently got involved in beach casting. I feel like a 10 year old again dreaming about the next trip, it feels great doesn’t it!?
Well, unfortunately I live in Bishop’s Stortford, Herts…. slap bang in the middle of everywhere except coast line. Have had a few excellent trips to Suffolk (Aldeburgh) didn’t catch much but fantastic weather, but it’s a bloody long way with a 5 year old asking “how much further”
Looking at a map the closest bit of coast is Malden, so can anyone recommend what its like there for beach fishing (assuming it’s a beach…) or can anyone recommend anywhere between Malden and Aldeburgh? Or perhaps even south of Malden a bit?
Also, (sorry to go on…) I have a decent Daiwa rod (sandstorm) and decent Abu Mag reel (all courtesy of e-bay!) I fish a size 4/0 hook with a mixture of Rag/Lug Squid strips and Mackerel, on a 2 hook rig with a 6 or 8 oz weight (I don’t know what the rig is called but it looks the same as what everyone else was using fishing close by.
Thanks a million in advance for you help and comments, |

| Hi Winnie1, Hook sizes could be dropped down a bit to say 1/0s and 2/0s. Sorry I live up north but someone will answer you in full but in the meantime let me welcome you to the forum cos there a good bunch of lads and lassies on here. Tight lines. keith |

Welcome,
Near maldon, although a little further east is Bradwell. In Summer Bass can be had between the Power station and St Peters Chapel. Its mainly beach, but an estuary so mud here and there. Between Maldon and Bradwell there are some marks into the river Blackwater. At Burnham there is the River Crouch, again in Summer various points turn up bass. Fresh bait can be bought at Latchingdon or the tackle shop in Burnham if pre-ordered. Further south of Burnham and north of Maldon are other members areas.
God luck |

HI,
If you have a partner to look after the child you could try Southend pier. Little one and carer could be left in the funfair to join you later.fishing is ok rather than spectacular and smaller hooks are the order of the day.
good luck and enjoy. |

Thanks guys, I knew this was the right place to come!
Ill give the tackle shops in Latchingdon or the tackle shop in Burnham a quick search in google and boock mark them, I fancy that bit of coast by Bradwell/South minster/Burnham on Crouch
Beehive, just a question about access to this stretch of coast...the roads look like they "stop a mile or so short" of the coast line its self (well, it does from the road atlas i'm looking at)....is there access or is it park up and walk kind of thing? My mate has a Land Rover Defender that goes anywhere sort of thing, is it ok to use that and drive right up?
Thanks again, I am hoping to go on the 31st May, cant wait |

Hello again,
At Latchingdon the bait is sold from a private address - the phone number is 01621 741771. From where you are and if your going to Bradwell you pass through Latchingdon and the place for bait is on your right hand side, can't miss it.
At Bradwell (power station) park at the furthest car park at the station and then walk down right hand side of station. It's about a 15-20 minute walk tops to the sea edge. At St Peter's chapel, go through Bradwell village and follow signs to St Peter's chapel. Follow road to end and there you can park. You then have to walk up a gravel path and past old chapel. Sea is more or less dead ahead and takes from car park about 20-30 minutes. If you turn left at chapel you walk another 20 minutes and pick points on right hand side. I'm not sure of points right of chapel to Burnham - mainly mudflates and marshes I believe until you get to Holiwell Point. Holiwell Point at Burnham is right at end of Marsh Road, Burnham then turn right towrds Holliwell Farm. Park at gate and its a 20-30 minute walk to sea wall. You can buy a key to the farm gates and get access to 3 farm roads, but it costs £20 per annum.
Why not try Bradwell first, it's easier to get too (more picturesque if you care), squid and lug or rag seems to work fairly well. If you don't mind a 45 minute walk from the car park then Sales point which is about half way between the chapel and power station, although I've also heard that just ahead of the chapel can be good as well.
Anyway, good luck - let the forum know how ou get on |

Could you please tell me who to contact regarding gaining a key for the gate, I've fished it once but it was a bummer walking down there with my kids and their stuff
Thanks |
