Hi, maybe a silly question however recently I have found..and spoken to others who are experiencing the same thing..and thats we are getting really good bites..however its 1 good rattle of the rod tip then nothing?
I'm wondering if its crabs yanking the bait..or small whiting?
This has been happening on mackrel and black lug.
I'm fishing off the coastal footpath in Blackpool.
All tips greatly appreciated.

Thanks, this seems to be happening to most people I've spoken to..from Gynn square up to clevelys. A few Codling been caught but the fishing has really dropped off these last few days. I thought as its an easterly wind and the seas been so calm that was why.
Think we need a good storm to churn things up a bit.
I do seem to be getting lots of whiting tho..so perhaps the codling are chasing them..hence the false bites..its very annoying tho when your rod tip dont move or just 1 good tug then nothing and you find somethings ate the meat off your makrel lol..hence I thought Crab?? |

Believe me I've debated it, I knew if we had the sea like this the east would be rough so I debated a trip but think its too far for 1 day |

| Most false bites can be atributed to crabs and wrasse, all I can suggest is that you scale down your hooks and possibly catch whatever has been having a go at your bait. (Atributed!) where the hell did I get that from? Tight lines keith |
