Hi Bezza,
I've had school bass in the spring 3 hours before hi-water onwards if there's a reasonable surf running, the problem though is there are always a number of surfer types there, you would be better going on to Pink Bay (walk along the path alongside the Royal Porthcawl Golf Course towards Sker, this has produced codling and thornback for me in the past.
Haven't fished the shore for a while but have a few good marks off both when I take the boat out, Conger, Ray, and the usual dogfish are prolific.
Good Luck

How be BBM....
Yes, Fished it regularly before the boat came along, usual suspects as you've said many times, from strap conger to pollack little turbot, whiting and schoolies, I reckon though the best spot is where the old slip way used to be, not the new one but about third of a mile towards ogmore from the present slip. Do you go to newton much mate? |

Therre are usually too many surfers to fish Rest Bay itself, as mentioned above, at least during the day. You can get small Turbot off the beach as well as school bass, early morning or late evening. The rock fishing along here is good. I've always enjoyed fishing off Sker Point, at low water, just make sure you don't get cut off by the incoming tide. Fish off the rocks all along the coast here, up to and beyong high water. Good for Rays especially when the weather and tides are right, plus all the usual stuff. |

Hi Carl. I found this forum by chance.
I was once a very keen fisherman when I lived in Porthcawl, but that was 20 years ago. Since then I've moved away, and come back...to Margam...and the kids are now old enough to want to fish themselves. So it's been back to all those spots I used to fish in my youth. Dewi's the name. |
