Reports are that Bass have been caught throughout the winter in the Menai Straits. Live Herring is the killer bait and there is no shortage. Penmon sound and Perch rock for quantity and the Swellies for the big mamas. Why go to the bother of migrating when your surrounded by food. Imagine how plump these Bass are going to be come August/September since they have not burnt-off their fat reserves on winter migration. Who's going to give me odds on a Welsh Record coming out of the Straits this year? |

I heard a story about a 21 pounder caught at Conwy 30 years ago. The fish was weighed in at the local police station and later eaten. I was told that this had a mention in the Anglers Times but due to the lack of evidence failed to make it to the record books. Unfortunately record fish have to be scientifically identified or so I have been told. |
