Hi all,

I was out saturday night at shoeburyness fishing a new spot and on three seperate occasions I got what seemed to be definate bites - three good knocks in close succesion - but on reeling in all I had was bare hooks.

I haven't put new hooks on for a few sessions so could this be the cause ??

If not any ideas?

Thanks

G

One thing I have learnt always have sharp hooks happy a simple hook sharpener is all you need to prolong the life of your hooks.
You should always check your hook especially when fishing rocky ground. It is possible that you are losing fish.As the fish moves off if the hook is blunt it fails to set and when you reel in you are actually pulling the hook out of the mouth because of this.
However if you have good sharp hooks then it is possible that the craps are feasting or you are srtiking too soon the fish will hook itself with a sharp hook so let the fish do the work. You should only pounce when the tip really dips.
Hope this helps It is only my views and I am sure there will be better ones along soon.

Thanks for the info. I think its the hooks as i always seem to catch when I try a new rig out. Always make them with new hooks!!

No man who never made a mistake, ever made anything!

 Me too mate but while I have a rig on for that day I always make sure the hook stays sharp that way I can eliminate the hook if I am losing fish.
Theres nothing as frustrating as losing fish. Especially when you dont know why  .But if you keep the variables down then its easier to spot mistakes you know what I mean :? .

Good luck with the fishing we can all learn from each other and Sea Fishing Org is the place to be.
