Hi all,
Does anyone have any advice on what rig setup to use for deep sea fishing for Bream? If anyone knows where i can buy a ready made one that'll be even better! I've been told to use small hooks as they don't have big mouths but I have no clue on the setup
Any other advice would be cool too.
Thanks. |

try a 2 hook paternoster set-up; I find they feed up off the bottom and love a moving bait. Size 1 hook, a ragworm or two then a sliver of squid or mackerel to tip it off. Let the weight hit bottom and wind up slowly a couple of turns- lower back to bottom and repeat. Use light tackle and have the best sport there is....... then carefully put back any female fish... keep one or two male fish for brilliant eating (so I'm told, I'm not a fish eater) |

I use varivas semi circles as they are a small, tough hook. I use a size 2 normally with those mini squid as bait. These small hooks can manage bream to 4lb as well as other supprise fish. Some of my rigs have a silver sequin above the bait as added attraction. |

If you manage to get to a seat in the stern use a longish rod , fish a running ledger with a 6ft trace ending in a staggered wishbone so you can use two small baits or one bigger one with a hook at each end. Use just enough lead to bounce tackle downtide to find fish . Don't strike at the rattles , lift slightly till the bream gets hold.Keep changing lead to suit tide run, weights down to 1/2 oz. Breaming is great, have fun! |

it depends on which area you fish and what the state of the tide is etc, but you can't go wrong if you fish light for them. Small and light.
size 2 to 4 hook long shank hook such as a 940/aberdeen (forgive me if they aren't the right terms, but y'know the ones i mean - small hook/long straight shank), on a 4 ft flowing trace (15lb max amnesia/vanish etc) . clip that on to a 6" boom with the lightest weight you can get away with and have all that on 20lb braid max. lovely job.
As for bait, ivw always had a shed load of success on scallop skirt - its a fantastic bream bait. just cut a strip of it as you would mackerel or squid, hook it once and wait for the fun to start! |
