Was going to fish the Weston Outcasts match on Sunday this week. Anybody fished Burnham/brean beach before or recently?
Any tips would be appreciated. Thinking of a two hook flapper with lug and rag...perhaps even a peeler or two!!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Firstly, the rules are one rod, 3 hooks, so if your gona fish a flapper you might as well add another hook to the rig or you'll be handicaping yourself. You could however, fish a two-hooked clipped down or pulley pennel at distance and slide a flyer down the line to fish both at distance and under your feet.

The main species that are likely to come out and get you anywhere in the comp are gonna be codling, thornbacks, flounders may be a conger or bass. There will be whiting about but probably only 2 inch long pencils.

The most popular area for the bigger fish will generally be down by the lowerlite if you can find a spot (and you'll need to be there hours before the start to get anywhere near there), however previous comps on the beach have thrown up bonus fish all the way along.

Flounder can be caught all the way along but my personal preference would be up nearer the pavillion and swimming pool for those. There's a biggest flounder pool thats worth trying for if you don't get in with the bigger fish.

fished it this afternoon, really well organised, enjoyed it a great deal, even the rain stopped.
Fished by the amusements to the right of the slip way.
Caught a tiny flounder (20cm) so to small to qualify. A 40cm flounder won the event, 40 cm flounder worth about £400 to it's captor, congratulations to him.
My thanks to the organisers I enjoyed my afternoon.
Thanks for the advice.
Cheers!
